Statement of American Lung Association Professional Standards In Conducting
ALA Not on Tobacco (N-O-T & ATS) Programs
Thank you for participating in training for the American Lung Association (ALA) N-O-T & ATS program.
1. The American Lung Association upholds high standards in the training and implementation of its programs. To insure these standards are upheld please read and sign the following agreement.
a) Adhere to the content and format of the program as provided by the American Lung Association (ALA). The program must be used as designed; changes to content are not permitted
b) Be trained and certified by the ALA to lead or supervise the program. Written approval by the Lung Association must be received prior to an individual or cosponsoring organization joining with a third party in conducting or supporting the N-O-T & ATS Program.
c) Use only ALA materials for conducting the authorized N-O-T & ATS program.
d) N-O-T & ATS are copyrighted programs of ALA. Therefore, registered trademark and acknowledgment that it is an ALA program must appear on any materials and promotions developed for the program. Requests for permission to use any ALA copyrighted materials or trademarks must be approved in writing by the ALA National office.
e) Be a nonsmoker or ex-smoker for at least six months prior to being certified as a N-O-T or ATS facilitator.
2. The program, services and materials for ALA are offered to the public on a not-for-profit basis. Therefore:
a) Individuals or organizations may not use ALA N-O-T or ATS program elements as part of another program, or co-mingled with another organization’s program.
b) Individuals or organizations may not offer the N-O-T & ATS program for profit.
c) Individuals or organizations must adhere to the agreed upon program fees charged.
d) Trained individuals or organizations must be non-profit or an entity providing a health program for its employees and their families.
e) Trainees must advise ALA of all program implementation conducted.
3. ALA is committed to research in the broad area of lung health. Therefore:
a) Approval from the ALA Best Practices and Program Services Division is required prior to conducting Research projects using N-O-T & ATS.
b) In all cases, personal information including names and addresses of program participants must be kept confidential.
c) Facilitators should use the appropriate evaluation materials both before and after program implementation. All completed evaluation materials should be forwarded to ALA.
4. Trainee or cosponsor hereby indemnifies and holds harmless the ALA from and against any claims, proceedings, lawsuits or other liabilities, costs or expenses, including legal fees, arising out of or attributable to acts, or omissions to act, of the trainee or co-sponsor.
