WEBSITE! The new Raze website is almost completed! This is great news for all of us. After waiting for months the final touches, clichés, and problems are being worked on. The website is going to make it easier for Adult Advisors to track their crews and commotions, it will be easier for the youth to register, evaluate commotions, and log in crew members. We are very excited about the website. We do not have a launch date set, but keep your eyes and ears open cause it’s coming soon to a computer near you.
Operation Right Choice (ORC) - A grant funded, youth empowered program in Cabell County. Operation Right Choice focuses on youth 11 – 17, and helps to lay the foundation for making right decisions concerning education, substance abuse, teen sexuality, under age drinking, youth violence, and healthy lifestyles. To visit the website go to http://www.huntingtonhousing.com. Below are some of the latest projects the ORC has been involved in.
Project Towards No Drug Abuse – Students continue to meet each Thursday evening for a two hour class dealing with the issues of substance abuse. In January, ORC students conducted a “Talk Show” where students took on the roles of people who are addicted to drugs or friends or family members of drug addicts and showed how those drugs have affected their lives and relationships. The youth did such a good job they want to do the play again for their parents. Tobacco Prevention Workshop – ORC students hosted an all day RAZE tobacco prevention workshop on Saturday, January 29th with over 50 middle school students attending from the region. These students were trained in how to use various tools to inform and educate others about the dangers of tobacco use.
Students are doing great things around our state. Pictured are students from Roane County participating in the Black Walnut Parade.
