Why should you get involved in the American Lung Association of West Virginia's "Blow the Whistle on Asthma" Walk? Here are a few million reasons;
l Approximately 24 million Americans, including an estimated 7.7 million children, have asthma.
l The annual economic and medical cost of asthma is estimated to be $12.7 billion dollars.
l Asthma is responsible for children missing more school days than any other chronic disease. Even more alarming is the fact that the death rate from asthma has increased more than 55% during the past 20 years.

How can you help the American Lung Association fight the growing asthma epidemic? You can be a part of the Asthma Walk project. This year, walks will be taking place throughout the country, including:  Charleston and Huntington, WV. These walks are designed to raise money to be used in the fight against the growing asthma epidemic. Walkers form teams of family members, friends or co-workers and work together to raise money for the walk. This money will be used in West Virginia to fund asthma research.

What do we need from you? There are many ways to be a part of the project. You can form a team and walk. You can join a team and walk. You can volunteer to help in the planning and organization process. Your business can agree to sponsor the event, or you can contribute to a team that is walking. If you want to speak with someone regarding the Asthma Walk project, please call Deb Qualls, Special Events Manager at:
